How long does it take to get an appointment at the clinic?
We endeavour to offer you an appointment as soon as possible and we have a number of Clinicians who may be able to see you, however, none of them work at the clinic every day of the week. We hold appointments for urgent referrals and also operate a cancellation list.
Can I bring a support person to my consultation appointment?
Yes, we encourage a support person. Often a lot of information is given to you at the consultation and having a second person there to listen can be very valuable.
If you are attending for a skin examination, a Registered Nurse will be present, but you are also very welcome to bring your own support person if you wish.
Will I have an xray taken at my consultation appointment?
If you require an xray or cone beam CT scan to assess your teeth or jaws, this will be done at the clinic as part of your consultation. The results are available within 1 -3 minutes.
Will I have to pay for the services on the day I am seen?
Payment on the day is preferred and appreciated. If your insurance company is covering the cost, we understand that you may wish to send the account to them for payment.
For information about the cost of services, please contact the clinic staff.
Financial terms and conditions are available at the clinic.
Do you deal directly with insurance companies?
Scott Clinic is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross Healthcare for certain procedures, and as such if you are insured with Southern Cross, the clinic staff will manage the approvals process for you.
For all other insurance companies we provide you with estimate of costs for any services provided and it is your responsibility to obtain prior approval. Most insurance companies will pay monies directly to the clinic if the account is provided to them.
The clinic holds a clinical services contract with ACC and will manage the approval and payment process for you.
Please note that there may be a surcharge that you will be required to pay for certain ACC procedures and also if you have an excess or a partial cover policy with your insurance company.
How long after my consultation will I get surgery done?
This is dependent on the type of surgery you need, how long the procedure is, whether it is being done at Scott Clinic or Royston Hospital, or if ACC approval is required.
You will be advised of the applicable timeframes at the time the decision to have surgery is made.
How much will my surgery cost?
You will be given an estimate of costs for your surgery by the clinic staff.
There are a number of factors that can influence the estimated cost of a procedure and these will be discussed with you.
Please contact the clinic for a guideline on estimated costs, but please be aware that the final estimate may vary.
Can I drive after my surgery?
The only absolute indication for not being able to drive is if you have surgery under intravenous sedation. In this instance you must not drive for 24 hours.
If you have your surgery under local anaesthesia only there is no clinical reason why you cannot drive home. However, if you are feeling a bit anxious about the procedure or are having skin surgery near your eyes, it may be advisable to bring a responsible adult to drive you home.
How long do I need off work after teeth extraction?
This can vary, depending on the number of teeth extracted.
For those patients having their wisdom teeth extracted, we recommend one full week off work or study.
If you are having a simple extraction of non-wisdom teeth, you may only need one or two days.
Recovery time can be very individual and the clinic will provide a medical certificate for you if required.
Will I have a scar after my skin surgery?
Every surgery to the skin has the potential to leave a scar.
The surgeons at the clinic are very conscientious about taking all practicable steps to minimise the amount of scarring you may have, and use clever techniques to ‘hide’ the scar, especially on the face and neck.
The Registered Nurses will work with you to help manage your scar in the post operative phase of wound care.
